What's new in the 4th edition of The First Days of School? 

There's a new look for every teacher's best friend and valuable resource.

 It is still the most basic book in education on

  1. how to manage a classroom,
  2. how to teach for learning and achievement, and
  3. how to have positive expectations.

The content and research have been updated; there are more examples; there’s a new cover; and there’s a new implementation DVD included with the book.

So, What’s New With the 4th Edition?

  1. The number of chapters devoted to procedures has increased from one to two.  Studies continue to show that procedures are that important to get established in the classroom.
  2. There’s a new chapter on assessment to keep students on track with their own learning.
  3. There’s a new chapter on professional learning teams and how they are used for increased student achievement.
  4. There’s a new chapter for practicing or potential administrators with guidance on how to implement The First Days of School in a school setting.
  5. Q: Are the previous editions still useful?
A: The 4th edition supersedes all previous editions.

Q: Can I still use my old lesson plans?
A: Of course.  The concepts in the chapters are still the same.   However, it is recommended you check your lesson plans against this edition to verify your notes.  There have been some page changes and new examples added.

Q: What happened to the Enhanced CD, Never Cease to Learn, that was free in the 3rd edition?
A: It is now available for purchase as a DVD with additional features.

Q: How can I get a copy of the new DVD “Using THE FIRST DAYS OF SCHOOL” without buying the new edition?
A: The DVD with Chelonnda Seroyer is only available free with the purchase of the 4th edition of The First Days of School.

Q: Can I show the DVD, “Using THE FIRST DAYS OF SCHOOL” in my classes?
A: Yes, we highly recommend that you do.  It shows how a first-year teacher implements the information in the book.

Q: Can I broadcast “Using THE FIRST DAYS OF SCHOOL” on a university network?
A: Each case is handled on an individual basis.  Please contact our office with your proposed use and we will either grant you the right to use it free of charge or offer you a license for a fee for its continuous, wide-spread use.  Seldom will we deny the broadcast of this program.
